Our mission is to assist in providing a better and safer quality of life for low income senior citizens, aged 62 or older. Our vision is to provide cost free funds and services that honor our seniors. Donate 4 Seniors is a non-profit (501 C3) which is fully approved on a state and federal level that has a passion for the needs of low income seniors. Our organization will assist in the specific areas outlined below. (1) Provide cost free funds for needed minor home repairs and/or minor home modifications that improve safety in the home up to a maximum of $1,700.00. (2) Provide cost free funds to assist disabled senior citizens, aged 62 or older, for wheelchair ramps up to a maximum of $3,400.00. We will also refer applicants to other non-profit organizations that provide similiar services as Donate 4 Seniors if they can better service our seniors. The following articles indicate the need for the type of services provided by Donate 4 Seniors. According to an article published in March 2018, 4.9 million adults aged 65 and older lived in poverty in 2016. The poverty level was defined as less than $11,880.00 in annual income for a one person household and $16,020.00 for a two person household. A survey conducted by The University of Chicago indicated that 77% of adults over age 50 would like to remain in their communities for as long as possible, but 50% believe that they will be unable to do so. The polls other findings were: - 36% plan to modify their homes to enable them to stay as they age. - Bathrooms and entryways are the most likely modifications. Additionally, in 2015 the Medicare cost for services provided for seniors invoved in non fatal slips and falls was $29 billion and MedCad paid out an additional $8.7 billion. Because funds are limited the applicants must show that they are considered to be low income by their states of residence,
