Over the years we have changes a lot. Here's a little history: • 1885 we were known as Grant County Charity Hospital • 1937 we became the Swift Memorial Hospital • 1957 the name changed to Silver City General Hospital • 1959 we were known as The Hillcrest Hospital • 1969 Grant County became the owners of the Hospital • 1983 to present we are known as Gila Regional Medical Center LOCATION: Nestled in the foothills of the Rocky Mountains at an elevation of 6,000 feet, Silver City borders the Continental Divide. Geographically, GRMC's service area includes four southwest New Mexico counties -- Grant, Hidalgo, Luna, and Catron -- that encompass 17,305 square miles, about the same area as the states of Massachusetts and Connecticut combined. That's fewer than four people per square mile in our very rural region.
