Dr. Shankarrao Chavan Government Medical College was established in 1988. This medical College became functional on 11 acres of land of Shri Guru Gobind Singhji Memorial Hospital, Nanded. In view of on going feeling of inadequacy of premises/land provide services, govt. decision to shift the medical college and hospital in 112 acres of land of Vishnupuri was taken. Shifting into new premises was completed by October 2015 and the institution became functional on 20-10-2015 in Vishnupuri. Nanded is a primary centre for health care in the under developed region of Marathwada(Maharashtra). Apart from nearby districts, needy persons from Andhra Pradesh, Telangana and Karnatka state borders also seek medical treatment in this institute at large numbers. Campus of this medical college and hospital in Vishnupuri area has become fully functional. The hospital complex has 500 teaching beds. There are independent beds for I.C.C.U., S.I.C.U., N.I.C.U., P.I.C.U., casualty and disaster management ward. The total bed strength of the hospital is approximately 720 beds. The peculiarities of this institution include modular pattern of operation theatres, ultra Modern casualty department, metro blood bank, extensive and modern intensive care, special burns care ward, spacious parking facility and computerized H.M.I.S. for paperless functioning.
