I was asked very early on "why would you do that?" referring to starting this business. This was mostly a question of why now, given everything going on at the time. When Red-Tailed Woodworks was founded, we were in the midst of a growing pandemic and tensions regarding police brutality were reaching a breaking point. This was a world definitely in need of solutions, but there was something else it needed too. The world also needs a little bit more love in it. Ask anyone who knows me and they will tell you "he loves woodworking", and that's true. By starting this business, I am hoping to share my passion for woodworking with you. You've poured a lot of love into your dwelling to turn it into a home. Nothing helps you to express that better than furniture or décor that was made with that same amount of love. My inquisitive brother followed up the first why with the only logical question to ask next, another why. More specifically, why not? Why not build it as a hobby or work for someone else? The answer for me was easy. I believe in empowering others to take action on what they believe so that they live their best lives. I want kids or even adults to take their passions and beliefs and turn it into something they can be proud of. There is immense pressure to go find a corporate job, and not to start a business of your own or join a trade. Don't get me wrong, many of these jobs are great, but if you believe entrepreneurship is your calling, or working with your hands is your passion, then I say go for it. By starting a business, I will model these behaviors and hopefully inspire others to also take action on their beliefs to live their best lives. If this business is able to do that and spread a little bit of love, then it is definitely worth it. And that's just what we do through woodworking every day.
