Our Founders Starry Sky Coffee Company is a family owned & operated coffee shop located in Santa Maria California. The owners Steven & Hollie Funkhouser named the company after their daughters Skyler and Starr. Steven was born & raised here in Santa Maria & grew up watching local bands play in coffee shops along the Central Coast in Santa Barbara & SLO counties. Since those early days it has always been his dream to have a local venue for small bands & artists to share their work with the Santa Maria community. Our Company In late December 2008 Steven & Hollie had the opportunity to open their first Starry Sky Coffee centrally located in the Student Center of Allan Hancock Community College & were open for business in January 2009. The dream wasn't realized until July 1st 2011 when Starry Sky Coffee opened its second location on the corner of Santa Maria Way & Sunrise in the Mission Creek Plaza (across from Kmart). Starry Sky Coffee is now a showcase for local artists, a host to a variety of musical performances, a venue for local organizations & an alternative to the bar scene as a fun place to hang out with friends & to meet new people. Social Responsibility & Sustainability Starry Sky Coffee uses only Fair Trade and Certified Organic coffee beans. To Avoid unnecessary waste we chose compostable eco-friendly hot cups, use 100% post consumer recycled material coffee sleaves, and whenever we can use cleaning supplies and cleaning practices that are also eco-friendly.
