Almost 25% of Canadian households don't have a single book. Low literacy levels place children at a disadvantage that perpetuates poverty. First Book Canada’s mission is to transform the lives of children in need by improving access to educational opportunities. By making new, high-quality books and educational resources available on an ongoing basis, First Book Canada / Premier Livre Canada is transforming the lives of children across Canada. The First Book Canada network contains over 13,500 members of educators exclusively serving children in need. Since 2009, First Book Canada has distributed more than 9 million books and educational resources to programs and schools serving children from low-income families in Canada. First Book Canada currently reaches hundreds of thousands of children every year. Eligible educators, librarians, and program leaders serving children in need can sign up at firstbookcanada.org/register.
