Today, HYS has grown to approximately 700 musicians participating in its numerous programs, including a youth orchestra program featuring five ensembles, an annual concerto competition and chamber music program for its advanced players, and two music education outreach efforts for talented youth lacking the socio-economic resources to further their skills. Houston Youth Symphony is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization.
