The Achieve Foundation
www.theachievefoundation.org.auThe Achieve Foundation is a new charitable foundation dedicated to realising social inclusion for people with disability. We raise funds, implement projects and provide grants. Disability is a universal feature of the human experience. One in six Australians, or around 4.4 million of us, are living with disability. Yet people with disability are still experiencing discrimination and social exclusion. The Achieve Foundation wants to change this. People with disability and researchers tell us that social exclusion is caused by inaccessible spaces, mindsets, and assumptions. Exclusion doesn’t happen because of ‘impairments’ - it’s systemic - and it’s all around us. We also know that this is not the world most Australians want to be part of, or to perpetuate. We can – and must – do better. We want to transform Australia for people with disability and create real and lasting change in three ways: Build a philanthropic community committed to disability Current philanthropic investment dedicated to disability is low, so we will build this to improve outcomes for people with disability. Change attitudes towards people with disability The perceptions, preconceptions and expectations of society directly impact people with disability, so we will work to change attitudes and make sustainable progress in realising true inclusion. Change current approaches to housing We will examine how homes are connected to communities and begin the task of dismantling barriers to social inclusion particularly for people with high support needs.
