ABOUT Social Recovery Inc. seeks to promote social recovery of problem drug use and provide ideas for strategies to use in the process of recovering by focusing on social recovery first. What is Social Recovery? In simple terms Social Recovery Inc. is a movement based on years of research that puts the focus of recovery on getting the skills, resources, and networks needed for individuals to live in society without resorting to problematic substance use. Why is it important? Problem drug use is increasingly a social issue. Social Recovery is an ideological shift that views problematic drug use as a social problem, not an individual one. How does it work? Social recovery can work on an individual level (person to person), a group level (church, classes, recovery groups, sports league) or an organizational level (government programs, corporations, treatment centers). The ideas for social recovery are unlimited but rely on social acceptance of people with problem drug use and social engagement by people with problem drug use in social environments outside recovery networks only. INSPIRATION - HARRY'S STORY Harry’s life was scarred by years behind bars. His crime stemmed from opioid addiction. He left prison alienated from society. His only friends were other alienated people—also dependent on drugs. In and out of jail or treatment, people like Harry never integrate back into society. Social Recovery is our response for people like Harry. Social Recovery is a collective solution for society suffering from half a century of a war on drug users.
