Our children deserve the best possible chance to have a healthy, happy childhood and to reach their learning potential. But not all children have the same opportunities to thrive because of social, economic and physical barriers that actively hinder the very things necessary to achieve good health and well-being. UpLift is a School-Community-University partnership that brings together multiple partners, who collectively are working to support the health and learning of children and youth throughout Nova Scotia. UpLift is hosted within Dalhousie University’s Healthy Populations Institute, while operating in partnership with government, the Nova Scotia Health Authority, school communities, non-profits and the private sector. UpLift is about intentionally creating environments that are healthy, vibrant, connected, safe and empowering. Embedded within Nova Scotia’s existing Health Promoting Schools model, UpLift means catalyzing action, sharing successes and creating the conditions for all children to achieve their health and learning potential. Through UpLift, healthy conditions become the default, well integrated and the new norm – everywhere across the province. Because better health means better learning and a better future!
