Center for Economic Renewal, Growth and Excellence (CRECE)
www.centrocrece.orgCRECE is the Centro para Renovación Económica, Crecimiento y Excelencia (Center for Economic Renewal, Growth and Excellence). We are the think-tank arm of the Luis G. Fortuño Foundation. We are a nonpartisan, nonprofit institution dedicated to formulating, disseminating and implementing policies and practices that expand individual freedom, personal responsibility and opportunity to enable Puerto Rico and Latino communities throughout our Nation to attain their full potential for growth and prosperity. Growth is at the core of CRECE’s mission. As a think-tank organization based in Puerto Rico, we are committed to advancing the same principles and policies that have proven time and again to best enable individuals and societies to thrive and prosper throughout the world. Specifically, CRECE brings this singular focus to bear on the most pressing economic and social issues facing Puerto Rico, whose people currently confront formidable structural and public policy challenges, and are in urgent need to explore opportunities that allow them to achieve the individual and collective prosperity and growth necessary to overcome those challenges. CRECE looks to the advancement of Puerto Rican society as an integral and vibrant component of the increasingly larger Latino community in the United States. VISION To build a prosperous economy for Puerto Rico based on freedom and opportunity for the benefit of future generations. MISSION CRECE seeks to educate the public on free market solutions that promote self-reliance and growth. By educating the public, we aspire to build a strong and vocal group of influencers that will stress the need for policy evolution focused on personal responsibility, freedom and opportunity to jumpstart the economy. By proposing alternative solutions, we strive to ignite hope and strengthen Puerto Rican’s conviction that they have to invest, both as individuals and as a society, in the Island’s recovery. WHO WE ARE? CRECE is the think-tank arm of the Luis G. Fortuño Foundation. CRECE was founded by former Member of Congress and Governor of Puerto Rico, Luis G. Fortuño, and our vision and mission are based largely on his views and public policy initiatives. As a practicing attorney in the Nation’s Capital, Governor Fortuño remains a highly regarded and credible advocate of the freedom movement both in Puerto Rico and the United States. CRECE is born out of his deep commitment to contribute to Puerto Rico’s continued progress outside of the political arena. The institution boasts a Board of Directors composed of Puerto Rican professionals who share a common vision and advocacy for our guiding principles as the main engine for economic and social prosperity. The Board of Directors exercises governing authority over the Center. CRECE is based at the Biblioteca Siglo XXI Luis G. Fortuño (Luis G. Fortuño 21st Century Library), the gubernatorial library of former Puerto Rico Governor Luis G. Fortuño. The library and CRECE are housed on the campus of the Universidad Metropolitana in San Juan, Puerto Rico. While there is no direct affiliation with the University, both CRECE and UMET are committed to a partnership that will allow CRECE to instill its values at the inception of an individual’s professional formation by complimenting and strengthening leadership and academic offerings to the student body. CRECE is part of the Atlas Network, a nonprofit organization connecting a global network of over 450 free- market organizations in 80 countries. *We're a Non Profit Organization 501(c)(3).*
