Slated to launch in late 2022, Citizenly is a new platform designed to improve the experiences of being a citizen and of governing. It will be the first social media platform intended to connect citizens with elected officials, political candidates, government agencies, and each other — a little like a mix of LinkedIn and NextDoor, but for politics and civic engagement. Citizenly is predicated on the notion that we can do better as a global internet community in using the internet to improve what it means to be a citizen, and to govern or represent others. Citizenly is committed to a different approach in addressing disinformation, political toxicity, bots and similar problems, with the idea that good citizenship can include debate that is passionate but respectful and informed. Our values as a company are to Be Civil, Be Curious, Be Informed, and — as a staff — Be Neutral (irrespective of our personal political views). Citizenly is slated to launch in one state, Oregon, in late 2022, and aims to expand nationwide after that.
