AFO supports Oregon’s quality of life and creates awareness of our designed environment through education, engagement and inspiration. AFO believes that all Oregonians benefit from thoughtful design in their homes, in their community and in the environment around them. Through dynamic programming such as Architects in Schools and our partnership with Hip Hop Architecture, AFO works with community partners to share design’s role in shaping our future. AFO partners with organizations across the state to connect communities with the power of design. By convening conversations and encouraging involvement, we empower people to embrace design as a tool to impact the future of Oregon for generations to come. AFO embraces the special sense of place that makes Oregon a unique location. From honoring the people and organizations that define this place we call home to fostering the next generation of leaders and thinkers, we work to ensure that our built and natural environments inspire us to dream more, create more and do more. - Since 2003, AFO has served over 40,000 elementary school students statewide through our flagship Architects in Schools program - AFO has awarded annual scholarships to Oregon architecture students since 1998 and is working with the professional community to grow scholarship opportunities for a diverse range of students - In partnership with The Oregon Community Foundation, AFO has awarded over $450,000 to practicing design professionals through the annual Van Evera Bailey Fellowship award - From AIA Gold-Medal architect Pietro Belluschi to Senator Mark O. Hatfield and architect Carol Edelman, the stories of AFO’s annual Honored Citizens are celebrated for their significant contributions to Oregon’s designed environment by 600 or more attendees annually
