JGU COVID Support
www.milaap.orgJGU COVID Support Group, a group formed by the alumni and student community of O.P. Jindal Global University as a response to the COVID-19 crisis as on June 9, 2020. Phase 1: Ration, Travel, Sanitary and Medical Assistance We have served more than 13000 people in the last 2 months with dry ration, travel (bus/train), hygiene, and medical assistance in 10 States in India, namely, Assam, Bihar, Chhattisgarh, Delhi, Haryana, Jharkhand, Maharashtra, Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh, and West Bengal with the help of several partner NGOs, volunteers, interns and student community from JGU. Phase 2: Migrant Power Material As a part of the long term solution, JGU COVID Support Group along with Human Rights Law Network and Bandhua Mukti Morcha has prepared practical socio-legal literacy material, in several languages, which includes: a) A helpline directory of NGOs working in different locations for different causes to be used both by NGOs and migrant workers; b) Handbooks on government schemes that can be availed by workers; c) Posters that can be put up and flyers to be distributed among the workers to educate them about their rights; d) Videos on the rights of workers and bonded labour. This material will be shared with NGOs, which will then explain the legal rights to migrants workers to reduce their exploitation through legal awareness + using the NGOs as a point of contact for support in the future. Phase 3: Upcoming Projects JGU COVID Support is currently exploring ways to collaborate with NGOs/companies working in the area of (i) access to e-education for underprivileged children; and (ii) providing fresh food (which is currently missing in our dry-ration kits) to under-resourced communities. Our current partner NGOs include Rise Infinity Foundation, Jeevan Rath, UNICEF, Bandhua Mukti Morcha, Mr. Sonu Sood's team, Migrant Travel Support Network, Janman, Jeevan Stambh, Koshish, Sampark, Fight for Right, Antyodaya, Xondhan & Daily Wage Workers Platform.
