Children’s Books On Tape was founded in the fall of 2000 as a community service project that has since evolved into a 501(C)(3) not-for-profit corporation. Our organization reaches out to children in disadvantaged, lower income schools across the United States and in China by providing elementary level recorded books-on-tape. Recorded books are packaged along with tape recorders into Listening Libraries, each comprising of 50 books and six tape recorders. Listening libraries are then donated to Elementary School classrooms and media centers. Since its founding, Children’s Books on Tape has donated over 6,000 recorded books-on-tape and 600 tape recorders to lower income schools in California, Connecticut, Florida, Pennsylvania, and the People’s Republic of China. The Children’s Books on Tape concept has proven to be highly successful as an educational tool. Children’s Books on Tape encourage a child to read independently as the tapes and books can be taken home or listened to at school without teacher intervention. Most importantly, Children’s Books-On-Tape build a child’s enthusiasm and excitement for reading.
