St. Mary's Catholic Church was formed in 1857 in Grand Rapids to serve the German population of the area. The Gothic church building, known for its stained glass windows, is one of the oldest extant Catholic Churches in the Diocese of Grand Rapids. St. Mary’s parish has changed and grown over the years. We now serve a community of parishioners reflective of the population of the Grand Rapids area. We host a food pantry, and are supporting community outreach programs through Steepletown Neighborhood Ministries. To better meet the needs of our Hispanic parishioners, a Mass in Spanish is offered each Sunday.
