Broad Reach is a Canadian charity established in 1998. Our vision is that all young people have equal opportunities, are confident, courageous, compassionate and resilient. Our mission is to engage and empower underserved Canadian youth through sailing and maritime activities. We break the rules, narrow the gaps, create opportunities and potential. We provide experiential education to enhance math, science, geography, physics, environment and the arts (imagine that) while growing social belonging, confidence, life skills and civic engagement. Sounds good? Founded in 1998, Broad Reach is a registered charity built on partnerships with numerous youth-serving agencies. Offering free program for disadvantaged youth that combines building life skills, job training and sailing in a unique setting aboard large keel boats followed by tall ship sail training for youth with partnering organizations. Through on-shore and on-water programs, youth aged 13-24/29, use sailing as an exciting platform to develop confidence, leadership, teamwork, responsibility and positive work ethic. A unique community concept, Broad Reach Foundation has introduced life-skills education through sailing to over 10,000 young people with economic, social and physical barriers. Being able to offer our unique programs to youth is made possible through the generous financial grants and donations from sponsoring organizations, government, individual donors, and the support of the sailing community. Building on the spirit of community we are grateful to our dedicated team of volunteers who give generously of their time and expertise to assist our staff in delivering our programs.
