KROWS is a collection of work by Dutch graphic designer Geert Kroes. It combines two of his biggest passions; (heavy) music and graphic design. Early life With his father owning a small printing shop Kroes grew up surrounded with print, art and design so the stage was already set for a creative future. On his creative influences Geert says: "One of my early inspirations was Pushead. Being a big Metallica fan from the get go I would spend hours recreating his artwork on school bags, school books and basically anything I could draw on. I spent all my money on metal albums and shirts that I wore until they were more hole than shirt." Band life After receiving his bachelors degree at the Graphic school for design in Eindhoven Geert started working for advertising agencies while his band Blind Sight was picking up speed releasing albums and touring the world. Creating album covers, apparel and stage settings began as a necessity for his own bands to save money on external artists, but what began as a necessity grew into a passion. "Playing in bands myself all my life not only taught me how important it is for me to have a creative outlet, but I also learned how to connect with-, and how to communicate with fellow artists in the industry. It's a good skill to have when you are working for busy bands operating on the highest level." Keep on creating Geert started working more and more for other (local) bands while improving his skills and expanding his network. Now he does graphic design work for some of the biggest names in the heavy metal industry.
