IRO
www.iro-office.comIRO is a design office based in New York. Working in the fields of architecture, research, landscape and urbanism, we compose forms and spatial experiences that seek the fine (un)balances inherent in each project, between rigor and freedom, banality and uncanniness, urgency and evolutivity. We have a predilection for sensory architecture and a fondness for the ordinary. IRO creates public spaces, residences and workplaces on multiple scales and across cultures. We recently designed a residence in Stockholm and a minimal cabin in a Latvian tea farm. IRO is frequently invited to collaborate, and recently joined studio PILA on the winning competition entry for the MBK lot in Bobigny, Paris. Ongoing with design firm SO – IL is the construction of a cultural center, Site Verrier de Meisenthal, tucked away in France’s Vosges mountains. While at SO – IL, Ian Ollivier led several international projects amongst which the ethereal exhibition Home Futures in London, an urban revitalization of Place Mazas on the River Seine in Paris, the environmental housing prototype Breathe in Milan and an Art Gallery in Korea. While at Selldorf Architects, Ian collaborated on art spaces for the Luma Foundation in Arles, France and the Boesky Gallery in Aspen, Colorado. Ian Ollivier founded IRO. He was born in New York and raised in France. Ian received his architectural training from the TU Berlin in Germany and ENSAB in France. He worked for Sauerbruch Hutton in Berlin, then Selldorf Architects and SO – IL in New York.
