Advancing Digital Education in Africa through the development of local backyard Poultry Farming. Our vision for fighting hunger and poverty in Sub-Saharan Africa include among other things, the promotion and development of local backyard poultry farming. Our goal is to increase the local backyard poultry production by teaching the farmers how to make egg hatching incubators from recycled used refrigerators powered by a hybrid electric, solar and / or wind energy system. What does poultry farming have to do with digital literacy ? We are not trying to make virtual birds, but just trying to “kill two birds with one stone”. In our quest to promote basic and digital literacy in rural Sub-Saharan Africa, some of the difficulties we had encountered were related to the fact that most of the farmers were more concerned about food security and increase revenues than education. Since we are now living in a digital world, how can we ensure that the children in rural Sub-Saharan Africa acquire the skills they need to succeed in an increasingly interconnected and technologically advanced world? To answer this question, we need to "Rethink Education in a Changing World". Rethinking the fundamental principles on which our approaches to education and learning are based in the context of globalization. To eradicate poverty in Africa, we need, among other things, to educate young African people for the jobs of the future by providing them 21st-century work skills and mentoring that will generate economic growth, work readiness, entrepreneurship and financial literacy. Some research published by UNESCO have shown that Education is the key to sustainable development. Therefore, we strongly believe that, in addition to food security and higher income, it is equally important to instill in every human being "the knowledge, skills, attitudes, and values necessary to shape a sustainable future". It is in a such context and with the aim of supporting the overall efforts in the fight against poverty, to improve food security and the health of women and children in rural Sub-Saharan Africa, that we have decided to create AFRICA DIGITAL POULTRY, a non-profit organization to address some of the challenges the farmers are facing in both the village poultry farming sector and the low literacy rate. Our goals are to assist local poultry farmers in the following areas: * Egg Incubators: Build egg incubators from recycled used refrigerators powered by a hybrid electric, solar and / or wind energy system. We will train young workers, preferably metal carpenters or welders, to make egg incubators from used refrigerators and make them available to rural women and youth groups that are already working in the field of village poultry farming. * Poultry Farming Training: By training farmers to use these egg incubators in the village poultry farming sector will allow rural populations to access, raise and market several types of poultry (chickens, ducks, guinea fowl, geese, turkeys, quail, etc.) and even the marketing of broilers and layers. This will alleviate poverty and also provide opportunities for rural youth to settle in their land and reduce rural exodus. * Kids Digital Literacy: Using Raspberry Pi to teach kids basic computer literacy and experimentations about the Internet Of Things (IOT). We will work with the villagers to allocate parts of the earnings from the chicken farms revenue to support the sustainability of the kids Digital Literacy program. * Adults Basic Literacy: Setup educational programs to teaching adults, mainly women and young girls, about basic literacy, entrepreneurship and financial literacy.
