Georgetown is a quiet Ohio Village which has grown steady since it was originally platted in 1819. Nearing a population of 5000, it will certainly have grown to city status by the 2020 census. It is the County seat of Brown County, primarily an agricultural area which is bordered on the south by the Ohio River. Its agricultural roots are evident the last week of every September when the annual Brown County Fair is held at the Fairgrounds at the edge of town. (http://www.thelittlestatefair.com/. Another unique agriculture related event is the annual Ohio Valley Antique Machinery Show, also located on its own grounds on the west side of Georgetown. (http://www.ovams.org/. Georgetown has preserved many historic sites and buildings, and contains a 17 acre site designated as a Historic District by the National Register of Historic Places. (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/georgetown_historic_district_(georgetown,_ohio) Foremost amongst these is the Brown County Courthouse, which, along with the Presbyterian Church and the Bailey House was designed by architect Hubbard Baker in 1849. In addition, the community proudly supports the Ulysses S. Grant Homestead Association, a non profit organization dedicated to the preservation of the role that Georgetown, Ohio played in the General's life. The organization maintains Grant's family home and the school he attended growing up. With the help of the Ohio Historical Connection, the Association strives to keep alive the history and spirit of Georgetown, and the part it played in forming him, our favorite son. http://www.usgrantboyhoodhome.org. The community also supports groups which promote education, celebration and social consciousness. You may explore some of them on facebook, including the Georgetown Ohio Police Department, John Ruthven artist, Georgetown Ohio Special events, Adams Brown Recycling, Georgetown Christmas Association and on the internet http://abcap.net / http://www.gtown.k12.oh.us / http://www.georgetownohio.gov.
