American College which was founded on the motto of "Empowering Aspiring Minds" is a nationally recognized and accredited Registered Training Organization which is nationally accredited by the Australian Skills Quality Authority (ASQA). American College recognises the changing pattern of student participation in tertiary education with increased student diversity and demand for flexible modes of delivery. One of the principles of learning and teaching outlined in the plan is recognising student diversity and the diverse learning needs of students. The learning and teaching plan outlines a number of initiatives to assist students in learning with the view to engage and retain students. The college uses a number of strategies to enhance student transition and retention. The learning and teaching principles articulated in the plan includes: •course relevance to the industry needs •alignment between curriculum content, learning outcomes, assessments, and teaching methods; •course taught by industry experts; •teaching and assessments enable student attainment of key generic skills; •promoting self-directed and lifelong learning; •recognising student diversity and the diverse learning needs; •evaluation of courses and teaching to enhance curriculum and teaching practices.
