Where visionary teenagers design, build, and govern a sustainable community from scratch. We are launching a virtual semester-at-sea program in August 2022 as the first step in creating the school. You can follow the progress of the Planet School's development via our podcast. The Planet School challenges students to build the school the school itself. Students spend the first five weeks learning to sail a 70-80ft sailboat across the Great Lakes. The voyage culminates in the students assuming command and using what they have learned to navigate the boat to its final destination using only the stars. Once on land, students will learn to manage the Planet School’s agricultural operation while they consider if they want to build a new yurt structure, install a sculpture garden, or add more solar panels. But we are getting ahead of ourselves—the first class of students will arrive to a vacant parcel with nothing but their ideas and essential supplies. Together, the lake and the forest campuses create a sense of connection to our entire planet and the systems that intertwine the land and sea. This planet-level way of thinking and problem solving is what we foster at the Planet School.
