Wenas Mammoth Foundation
www.wenasmammoth.orgThe Wenas Mammoth was discovered in 2005, well above the Missoula Ice Age Flood deposits. This is unique because this Columbian Mammoth lived and died in the Wenas Valley, Selah, WA. Central WA University ran summer field schools from 2005 - 2010, excavating 30% of the mammoth and 25% of a Bison Antiquus. The mission of the Wenas Mammoth Foundation is to promote, preserve and utilize the dig site, and its local natural earth science and history, to inspire the pursuit of educational opportunities. The National Science Board and WA State Office of Public Instruction, K-12 indicators show that young people are not prepared in math and science for college or a STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Math) career. The Wenas Mammoth Foundation's educational program offers real-life, hands-on learning opportunities engaging students to think critically and make informed decisions based on local natural earth science. The curriculum also meets the Next Generation Science Standards. The foundation offers educational opportunities through the Mobile Educational Exhibit (visiting schools and community events) and activities at the dig site.
