The Commons is a publication of Vermont Independent Media, a nonprofit organization devoted to providing quality local journalism and teaching the skills to create and appreciate the media. It publishes weekly in print and on commonsnews.org. The mission of Vermont Independent Media is to promote local, independent journalism in Windham County and to create a forum for community participation through publication of The Commons; and to promote civic engagement by building media skills among Windham County residents through the Media Mentoring Project.
