Talk To History Organization
talktohistory.wordpress.comEvery Generation has a Story to Tell. Talk to History was created with the vision that we will value one another enough to make sure that our voices, stories, histories are recognized, cherished and remembered. We aim to change the way our society looks at aging and how we treats our seniors – and ourselves. Talk To History exists as a 501 (c) (3) non profit to help children connect with the vibrant stories of living historians that reside within their own communities. 1) Education and Visitation Program: Talk to History works with youth leadership groups, local school districts, private schools, colleges, senior centers and nursing care facilities to bridge the generational gap between children and seniors in their communities. We start by providing an orientation class outlining the aging process, the value and opportunities for life enrichment at every age, what they might experience when visiting with seniors in their communities and the benefits of connecting with other generations. This class also provides guidance on behavior towards the elderly. The program can be integrated with the social studies curriculum of each grade, marrying the time period studied with the residents, allowing students the opportunity to meet someone who experienced this time period, first hand. 2) Every generation has a story to tell. That’s our mantra and, really, our core belief. We provide an opportunity to for kids to meet with seniors and provide them with tools to record and help preserve personal histories. 3) Community Outreach: Talk To History helps senior communities and centers to open up their facilities to their local areas, fostering communication and bridging the gap between residents and their communities. Talk To History works with senior care facility staff to develop local events, art galleries, live music and other social gatherings of interest to residents and the community. Talk To History helps communities embrace their local senior care facilities as fun, interesting places to visit.
