(dba Smithland | Dave’s Soda & Pet City) is a North Branford Connecticut-based private equity-held, specialty retailer with thirteen stores located in rural Connecticut and western Massachusetts. The company was founded in 2016 with the acquisition of Bergantino Agway with six free-standing locations that offer Pet Specialty, Backyard Farming, and Lawn & Garden supplies with full nurseries. In March 2019, the company acquired five additional locations from Dave’s Soda & Pets; Pet Specialty stores located in large grocery strip centers in west-central Massachusetts. In October 2019, the company opened its first stand-alone location in Old Saybrook CT. In November 2020, the company closed one Pet Center and then opened a new Pet & Garden Center in Westfield MA in April 2021. The company acquired Dave’s Soda & Pet City in Agawam MA in October 2021 with plans to rebrand this store under the Smithland banner in 2022.
