The Amicus Community is an independent accredited children’s therapeutic community (through the Royal College of Psychiatrists) providing therapeutic residential care and education to vulnerable and traumatised and children aged 5 to 16 years old (up to 11 years old on referral). The community comprises of our residential homes and separate school. Amicus accepts referrals for residential and day student placements. Our aim is to try and help children to work through their past traumas and difficulties in a safe and warm environment, supporting them to understand the impact of their pasts and corresponding behaviours and feelings. Enabling children to manage healthier relationships, through which they can achieve the trust and self-esteem essential for their eventual reintegration into the community and onto a sustainable and foster / family placement. We provide a highly supervised and planned environment that integrates therapeutic residential care and education and is underpinned by a rigorous psychoanalytic and group relations theory model, reflective practice and understanding.
