Ron Scalzo is the owner & CEO of independent record label Bald Freak Music. Ron started the label in New YorK City in 2005 and released three albums and various digital singles under the pseudonym Q*Ball from 2002-2012. Ron is also the singer in hard rock band Return To Earth. From 2005-2012, in addition to Ron’s own releases, Bald Freak released albums from influential guitarist Ron “Bumblefoot” Thal, New Jersey pirate metal band Swashbuckle, Brooklyn experimental act Black Pig, and NYC modern rock outfit The Head Set. In 2012, Ron’s house – including the studio, office and warehouse that comprised Bald Freak Music – was destroyed by Superstorm Sandy. In the years that followed, Ron reinvented himself as a solo artist, releasing The Last Q*Ball Album in 2014, You Deserve The Best in 2015 and I Gotta Rock in 2017. Ron was a producer for the syndicated Elvis Duran & the Morning Show from 2008-2018, often contributing musical bits, parodies, show intros, character voice work, and even live musical performances. Ron is the creator & host of the Independent Minded podcast, championing the work of independent artists and musicians from around the world. He is an avid runner, writer, foodie, music and movie fanatic. Ron is now a producer for NPR.
