NBISD New Braunfels Independent School District
www.nbisd.orgThe New Braunfels Independent School District represents a history of strong educational achievements. With a foundation beginning as far back as 1845, NBISD now serves more than 8,500 students and employs more than 1,000 employees. NBISD encompasses 13 campuses to include: eight elementary campuses, two middle schools, one ninth grade center, one 10th-12th grade high school, and one alternative learning center. Since 2012, NBISD’s TEC21 one-to-one initiative has been putting iPads in the hands of students. Beginning in August 2016, students in 1st grade through 12th grade will have access to a personal device. This process has been in support of a student-centered classroom with an emphasis on project-based learning. This type of learning environment is intended to empower all students, regardless of income, to engage in the collaboration, creativity, communication, and critical thinking necessary for a post-K12 education and career. In November 2015, voters approved a $62.8 million bond referendum to build two new elementary schools for growth and to address facility, safety and compliance needs of the district’s existing facilities. NBISD strives to increase high levels of student performance by offering rigorous curriculum and challenging academic programs. Annually, students and educators earn national and statewide awards for academic and teaching accomplishments. NBISD students historically perform above regional and state averages in state accountability testing. Students also continue to outperform their state peers in the SAT and ACT tests and continue to perform at the college level on Advanced Placement exams.
