In March 2022, the Kreditanstalt für Wiederaufbau (KfW) on behalf of the German government, the Dutch state-owned Gasunie LNG Holding B.V. and RWE signed a memorandum of understanding for the construction and operation of a multifunctional import and distribution terminal for liquefied natural gas (LNG) in Brunsbüttel. The LNG terminal will be operated by Gasunie. The shareholder structure thus chosen, with highly experienced companies, not only ensures that the project will be completed as quickly as possible, but also that it will gradually be used for climate-neutral energy sources.
