Concordia Moot Law Society (CMLS)

www.concordiamootlaw.ca

The CMLS is a legal case competition organization devoted to providing Concordia University undergraduate students with opportunities to compete at national and international moot court competitions. Moot court is a very popular activity for both law and pre-law students. It is a court simulation where students compete against each other in teams of two. One team represents the appellant while the other side represents the respondent in a simulation of an appeals court. The cases used in competitions are real legal cases that have already been decided at the highest levels of court. By sharing our passion for mooting and taking advantage of Quebec's particular place within Canada's unique legal system, the CMLS aims to: - Send delegations of undergraduate students to represent Concordia at national and international mooting competitions. - Encourage Concordia University students to pursue a career in law and give them access to a network of lawyers, judges, and students to cultivate their interest. - Prepare students for law school by improving skills in pertinent areas, notably problem solving, public speaking, debating and critical thinking. - Expand Concordia University's reputation in this field by competing consistently, and sending delegates to top law schools. We hope our appreciation for the North American legal systems will be contagious and push the next generation of Concordia University students towards careers in law!
