Healing Companions, Inc.
www.healing-companions.orgFounded in 2013 as a 501(c)(3), Healing Companions, Inc. is committed to increasing awareness of and providing access to psychiatric service dogs (PSDs) as a form of treatment for mental illness. We seek to help individuals become more independent and self-confident, allowing them to lead more productive lives. Healing Companions, Inc., is committed to creating a greater awareness of the healing benefits of psychiatric service dogs and incorporating shelter and rescue dogs whenever possible in its program. We envision a future in which psychiatric service dogs are fully integrated into comprehensive care for individuals with mental illness. On the short-term, we work to increase awareness of the benefits of PSDs and to provide PSDs to residents of Northeast Ohio who are in need of an alternative form of treatment for their mental illness. In 2010, Executive Director Jane Miller published the book, "Healing Companions: Ordinary Dogs and Their Extraordinary Power to Transform Lives". This inspirational guide to PSDs has served as the backbone for Healing Companions, Inc., and in the time since the book’s publication, the need for PSDs has skyrocketed.
