Tenuta Piano di Rustano
www.pianodirustano.itPiano di Rustano is located amidst the hills of the inland around Macerata, between the Apennines, with their harsh cold climate, and the mild Adriatic sea.The area, at 400 metres above sea level, is characterised by high thermal excursions, which have a strong impact on the biological cycle of the vines and on the quality of the product. The estate lands are used for a wide range of products, from wine to honey and the traditional agriculture of the area. High quality olive oil is produced; there are also a few woodland areas, with walnut and cherry trees grown for wood. The oldest vineyard has a history worth telling: roughly 70 years old, it was made with an ancient variety of Malvasia. It is located on the summit of a hill, position granting total access to sunlight and winds, where the soil is sandy and particularly permeable: these ideal conditions granted such longevity for this vineyard. Vines are structured in rows 1.65 metres apart, so that they are inaccessible to tractors. All the work is thus to be done manually, from the trimming of the vines, the spraying of the copper and sulphur solutions, cutting of grass to the harvest, which is carried out by the “portatori”, workers carrying the grapes to the end of the rows, to be there collected by a tractor. The winery cellar is located on the ground floor of the Piano di Rustano palace, home of Lebboroni family for four generations. The cellar, 350 square metres large, includes a crushing room, a fermentation room, a refinement and ageing room and a barrel room. The crushing room, when not used for the crushing of the grapes, is used as a conference room, for exhibitions and cultural events. The cellar hosts a permanent paintings exhibition about the history of the Lebboroni family. An adjacent outbuilding contains other fermentation and refinement facilities for the production of the honey wine. Tasting of our wines is possible at the estate’s wine shop, where they can be bought bottled or in bulk.
