Research Center for Rheology and Non-Newtonian Fluids
www.cernn.ct.utfpr.edu.brThe Research Center for Rheology and Non-Newtonian Fluids (CERNN) was created by faculty members of the Mechanical Engineering Courses (undergraduate and graduate levels) of the Federal University of Technology-Paraná (UTFPR). The history of CERNN started in 1999 when the Thermal Science Laboratory was created. As the number of activities, projects and people working with Rheology and Non-Newtonian Fluids increased significantly, CERNN was created in 2014 and immediately registered as a research group at CNPq (Brazilian National Council for Scientific and Technological Development) and at ANP (Petroleum National Agency). CERNN works aim at researching in the areas of Flow, Heat Transfer and Rheology of Non-Newtonian Fluids, either in continuum or in porous-continuum media. The conducted researches find application in several areas, such as Food, Petroleum and Cosmetic Industry, etc. Some examples of works performed by the group are: Well drilling fluid flows, Particulate flow in porous media, Flow start-up of gelled fluids and Rheology of gelled fluids. CERNN has a strong cooperation with the Petroleum Industry, especially with PETROBRAS.
