For families in poverty, sanitary pads are no different from luxuries. In Sub-Saharan Africa, girls drop out of school due to the lack of access to sanitary products. Without pads, women find it difficult to work during periods, whereas they are the key contributors to the families’ income. Period poverty not only affects women but the productivity and development of households and communities. Love・Binti teaches women cloth pads-sewing and promote sanitary hygiene education. Sewing training centres and bee-keeping groups are also set up to improve women’s livelihood skills.
