Holistic Education Mission is non profit organization working among underprivileged tribal groups, poor & orphan children. HEM was started in 2008 by it's founder Babal Gadar who was a first graduate from his village and the first one to go to school from his entire household. His vision was to provide education to other underprivileged kids like him. Currently HEM has two hostels and one school in western part of India with 308 poor and orphan under it's care. 60% of HEM children are first generation school goers. Some children walk as many as 12km a day to come to HEM school. HEM also conducts awareness programs and health, hygiene and social issues. During summer HEM uses it's premises to conduct adult literacy classes for the illiterate adults and basic computer and basic English classes for youth.
