The mission of Wright on the Park, Inc. is to own, preserve, and maintain The Historic Park Inn Hotel designed by Frank Lloyd Wright and to provide continuing education to the public about its place in the context of architectural history. Wright on the Park, Inc. was formed in March 2005 in answer to the City of Mason City’s plea for a local group to come forward and assume the rescue of the Park Inn Hotel (designed by Frank Lloyd Wright). The City of Mason City transferred ownership of the hotel to WOTP a year after its inception and 8 months later WOTP received its tax-exempt status. Immediately upon formation, WOTP began looking into funding opportunities and developing a business plan for the hotel project. With the help of several consultants, and visits to other historic hotels, it was determined that a 27-room model was most financially feasible plan for the rehabilitation of the property, however it was dependent on the acquisition of the City National Bank building to the east of the hotel. Then in September 2007, the opportunity came along and WOTP purchased the City National Bank building. With the assistance of many different individuals and entities, WOTP raised over 20 million dollars over the next three years to pay for the rehabilitation of the buildings and ongoing maintenance of the property. Major construction on the hotel began in the spring of 2010 and it was completed a year and a half later. The hotel’s grand opening was September 10, 2011.
