IIT Dharwad is one of the twenty three institutes of excellence for higher education, research and development in science, engineering and technology in India. The institute was formally inaugurated in 2016 by CM of Karnataka Siddaramaiah and MHRD minister Prakash Javadekar for scientific research and technology development under the mentor ship of IIT Bombay. Currently IIT Dharwad offers three programmes of B.Tech, MS, and Ph.D. In B.Tech three streams, Computer science and engineering, Electrical Engineering and Mechanical Engineering are offered. In IIT Dharwad the focus of the institute is on the overall development of students along with the academic excellence.
