Intimacies of Remote Warfare

www.intimacies-of-remote-warfare.nl

The Intimacies of Remote Warfare project aims to inform the public about the intimate realities of the remote wars waged in their names. Remote warfare is a form of military interventionism characterised by a shift away from “boots on the ground” and towards using airstrikes, partner forces and private contractors to counter threats from a distance. This physical withdrawal should not evade scrutiny, or we risk misjudging the complex and interconnected nature of contemporary conflicts. The project focuses on a number of key research topics, including the political narratives of remote warfare, local dynamics in areas most affected, and future trends in remote warfare. Producing a range of output for a diverse audience (academic, governmental, civil society and public), the project aims to both draw attention to remote warfare in public discourse, and to shape state policy in this area. Check out our website to see our research output and a variety of other publications and media we have been inspired by in our investigations into the Intimacies of Remote Warfare.
