Emergent Gateway Agri-Tech is an agricultural equipment start-up with a vision to ‘bridge the technology and best practices gap that is critical to the sustainability and viability of the farmer’. The initial focus is on post-harvest, specifically storage and handling solutions for all kinds of produce. However, the vision is to partner with multiple global players to bridge multiple gaps and expand to other emerging markets. Towards this end, Emergent Gateway signed a distribution agreement with Meridian Manufacturing Inc., a subsidiary of Westman Group Inc. (WGI) of Manitoba, Canada, focusing on post-harvest storage and handling solutions. The exclusive distribution agreement covers India and Ethiopia to begin with. Indian agriculture is at a critical inflection point that if navigated well could pave the way for Green Revolution 2.0. While the previous green revolution moved India from a grain-deficit to a grain-surplus country, the next one needs to tackle the nutrition deficit, viability of small land-holding farmers, increasing demand and sustainable farming practices. Emergent Gateway Agri-Tech is focused on technology and the best-practices in areas where the gap is significant starting with post-harvest, and in particular, storage and handling. The promoters of Emergent Gateway Agri-Tech, Senthil Kumar and Vasant Bennett, are both pursuing new interests after distinguished careers in business, IT and engineering services spanning North America, Europe, and India. While Senthil’s passion is in sales and marketing and business leadership, Vasant has immersed himself into agriculture and agricultural equipment. Rishabh Goyal, who makes up the founding team, is an MBA from IIM with a long family history in agriculture. He brings a rare combination of skills in business & finance with sales & marketing, which are all essential for a start-up.
