Breath of Life Africa
www.breathoflife.africaOur mission: Deliver life-saving innovations to countries in Africa where they’re most needed during The Ventilators to Africa Project: The Breath of Life Africa is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization under the umbrella of The Giving Back Fund (https://www.givingback.org/) created to deliver life-saving innovations where they’re most needed during the current COVID-19 pandemic, while establishing a foundation to foster global health resilience. Managed by top-level public health researchers and top IT experts from the US, Canada, and Africa, taking on the difficult task of making available life-saving Ventilators to the people of Africa dying every day from severe form of COVID-19, while ensuring a holistic approach encompassing the procuring, shipping, training, maintaining, research, and monitoring, evaluation and learning aspects of the project. After projections in early 2020 that there wouldn’t be enough ventilators for Covid patients, the United States was over-supplied by August. In Africa, by contrast, there are fewer than 2,000 working ventilators to support hundreds of millions of people. While ventilators are contraindicated for most Covid patients, they are essential for the most severely ill who are most likely the person above 75 years or with preconditions estimated at 8%. Knowing that in Africa the elders are the depository of traditions, culture and knowledge, we understand how dramatical this situation can become if not addressed properly. We aim to donate 807 Ventilators to 8 African countries as soon as possible given the urgency. Our holistic approach is derived from more than 15 years of experience in public health is described thoroughly in our implementation, maintenance, maintenance, capacity building and monitoring, evaluation and learning plans.
