Trees Not Tees
www.treesnottees.comWe work with race and event organisers to give participants the option of planting a tree rather than getting a t-shirt they won’t wear. We’re in a climate crisis. The environmental cost of making a t-shirt is huge. It takes the same amount of water that a person drinks in 2.5 years to make a single cotton t-shirt, plus over 2kg of eCO2. If it’s never even worn, all of those precious resources were spent for nothing. Equally, the environmental benefit of planting a tree is huge. It helps us fight against climate change by taking carbon dioxide out of the atmosphere, it provides a home for a diverse range of species, and it gives us clean air to breath. A race director or event organiser can simply add a tick box next to the t-shirt sizing selection on their entry form which says, “I don’t need another t-shirt – please plant a tree for me instead”. Instead of buying too many t-shirts, the organiser pays us for the cost of the t-shirt and we plant a tree for the participant instead. Participants who want a t-shirt still have the option of getting one. We have already purchased land in the UK, and we are planting native forests of oak, birch, rowan and alder. We’ve got a certified planting scheme and we always plant the right tree in the right place. Once we have planted the tree we will send a certificate via email to the participant with a picture of their young tree, details of the species of tree we have planted and a geo-location address on what3words. If you’re an event participant and you care about the environment, please help us by sharing our page with the event organisers. Start planting today!
