BBBSHC has provided one-to-one mentoring services through its Community-Based Mentoring Program (CBMP) to youth, ages 7-18, since the agency's inception in 1967. BBBSHC is Hampden County's premier mentoring agency, providing consistently high-quality services with measurable impact. BBBSHC continues to expand its original and most enduring program, the Community-Based Mentoring Program, in which volunteers and children do activities together out in the community. Additionally, the agency initiated its first site-based mentoring program in 1995. In site-based programs, volunteers and children are matched in one-to-one mentoring relationships and meet weekly at the child's school. BBBSHC is an affiliates of Big Brothers Big Sisters of America (BBBSA), meeting the more than 150 required standards and procedures for full member status. BBBSHC has repeatedly been selected selected as one of a handful of agencies nationwide to receive awards from Big Brothers Big Sisters of America in recognition of the agency's commitment to high-quality service. BBBSHC's program evaluations continually demonstrate that participating youth experience numerous positive outcomes, including greater self-confidence, improving relationships with peers, improving academic performance, and improving attitudes toward school. Big Brothers Big Sisters targets the children who need us most, including those living in single parent homes, growing up in poverty and coping with parental incarceration. Having a positive, caring adult in a young person's life can often be the difference between failure and success - in school, at home, and in life.
