Plastics Unbound — Injection Molding Reimagined™

www.plasticsunbound.com

The production of plastic parts with thermoplastic materials, using Injection molding, poses several challenges. One of those is to get on one hand a hot cavity while injecting to improve flow and achieve an easy filling, and on the other a cold cavity for quick solidification and ejection. Conventionally this is addressed by a static “compromise” cavity temperature. A better alternative can be cycling the cavity temperature during each mold cycle. The improved flow and filling of the cavity also might provide for new possibilities like: → Lower clamping force, i.e. smaller Injection Molding Machine → Molding plastic parts with thinner walls, i.e. less material used → Improved aesthetics (e.g. matte/glossy, fine textures and more) → Improved properties (e.g. flatness, diesel burns, and dimensions) → More cavities in the Mold/Injection Molding Machine → Less need for Hot-runner systems → Lower cost Mold plates Plastics Unbound GmbH has developed an injection molding technology for cycling the cavity temperature while molding. It requires a standard Injection Molding Machine, a Mold designed to Plastic Unbound’s specifications, and Machinery/Services provided by Plastics Unbound: the Mold Tempering Unit (MTU), Mold Connect Kit (MCK), and Training for your Mold maker and Operators. Designing and manufacturing a Mold for this technology is straightforward. No special equipment is needed. The cavity sides of the Mold plates are the same as usual, while the backsides are designed for the new technology. All the expected Injection molding features are available, such as angled ejectors, sliders, polished surfaces, reinforced materials, and so on.
