Crichton was founded in 1941 and named for a former professor and president, Dr. James B. Crichton. The college began as a Bible training center, later expanded to become a Bible Institute and finally became a four-year Bible College in 1960. In 1986, the college was accredited as a liberal arts college by the Commission on Colleges of the Southern Association of Colleges and Schools.
