The Adventure Academy CIC is a community interest company who specialises in delivering outdoor learning experiences. As a social enterprise we are a not-for-profit; our social mission guides us, which among other things, is to improve access to outdoor learning across all branches of society. At the Adventure Academy the experiential learning of the natural environment is not only vital to a person’s development and physical health but also their mental well being. As a social enterprise, the Adventure Academy has a series of social aims. Our mission is simple: to further these aims. 1) Outdoor learning is important; the Adventure Academy wants to ensure that everyone has an opportunity to access it. In fact we would go so far as to say that the experiential learning of outdoor education is vital in developing resilient well-rounded individuals who thrive throughout their lives. 2) The Professionalism of Outdoor Educators; we believe that outdoor education is vital and because of this we believe that inspirational outdoor leaders are required. Outdoor Educator should be a respected professional occupation. 3) Skills are important in the outdoors; while there is always an inherent risk, development of skills allows individuals to determine the severity of this risk. Many businesses and organisations offer opportunities for these skills to be learned and fine-tuned; however often there are barriers. We seek to reduce the barriers whether they are financial, cultural or geographical. 4) Everyone has something to give; we can learn so much about the world and ourselves through others. Respect of others is fundamental to a person’s own happiness.
