The Borough of North East encompasses 1.3 square miles within Erie County PA approximately 15 miles northeast of Erie PA and just west of the NY/PA State line. According to the 2000 census there were approximately 4600 persons living within the borough. There are several full-time employees managed by a borough manager with the government consisting of a weak mayor-strong council of 6 councilors. Contracted services include a borough solicitor and engineer plus other associations. The borough maintains over 2000 acres of prime woodlands and property within the borough and a multi million dollar budget.
