CELA - Center for Asian Legal Studies
celafdusp.wordpress.comThe Center for Asian Legal Studies (CELA in the Portuguese acronym) of the University of São Paulo, Faculty of Law, is a culture and extension Program hosted by the Commercial Law Department of the respective institution. The importance of a study center for legal Asian studies stems from the increasing importance of Asian countries in the international arena, the substantial immigration of Asian peoples to Brazil and the scarcity of research, academic production and debates on the subject in Brazil. CELA was established in 2014 and since then it aims to produce and diffuse knowledge about: (i) legal system; (ii) legal careers; and the (iii) dynamics of the law in Asia. The discussions and studies carried out by CELA are based on an interdisciplinary perspective and include studies regarding social dynamics, culture, values, history and economics of the countries subject of study. CELA develops its activities upon the publication of papers by its members, holding of academic events and the use of social networks and Internet to share matters of interest. We believe that Asian legal in-depth studies may bring valuable lessons to Brazil.
