Stop Children’s Cancer Inc, a 501(c)(3) nonprofit organization whose mission is to seek charitable donations for the prevention, control and cure of childhood cancers. Currently, funding supports clinical trials and research of childhood cancers. Stop Children’s Cancer was founded in 1981 by Bonnie R. Freeman, a 10-year old girl diagnosed with Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia (ALL). Bonnie cared about others and wanted to find a way to help families have a better outcome. She asked her family to help her accomplish this goal. Bonnie persevered for two more years, when she passed away at the age of 12. Her family and friends continued Bonnie’s goal. Since 1981, over 10 million dollars has been raised and donated to UF Health Department of Hematology and Oncology to support research of several types of childhood cancers. Bonnie’s goal is being achieved though better treatments and cures!! When Bonnie was diagnosed with ALL in 1981, the cure rate was 34%, today it is over 90%!! Stop Children’s Cancer holds events throughout the year to help raise funds to support our mission.
